History on the line as Kangaroos and Lions face off in AFLW grand final

Even once finals rolled around, not many would have predicted this as the grand final match-up. The Kangaroos and Lions finished third and fourth on the ladder respectively, and had to spring a week-one upset to set up their finals campaign.

Brisbane crept over the line against Adelaide in one of a handful of incredible finals we’ve seen this year, while North recorded the statement win of the season, pumping the Demons by 41 points.

Those results flipped the script on these finals. After Geelong dumped Melbourne out in straight sets, the Cats and Lions faced off in a prelim that became another classic, Brisbane holding on for four-point win.

North Melbourne had to stare down the most successful team in AFLW history, Adelaide, to win their place in the grand final. They held sway for much of the game but couldn’t put the Crows away, and when Anne Hatchard marked and goaled in the final minutes to bring the margin back to a point, it looked like heartbreak could be on the way for the Roos.

But North Melbourne held on, and their grand final debut now awaits. The Kangaroos have never beaten the Lions in AFLW history, but this team has made a habit of ripping up the record books this year.

The thrilling conclusion awaits.
