Demons midfielder Clayton Oliver charged with driving while suspended

Melbourne Demons premiership player Clayton Oliver has been charged with driving while on a suspended licence.

Key points:

  • Police allege they stopped the 26-year-old while driving in Melbourne suburb Camberwell
  • Oliver was suspended from driving after a medical episode in October
  • The Melbourne Demons said they were informed of the incident immediately

The 26-year-old was allegedly pulled over by police on November 16 in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell, on Moorhouse Street, according to Victoria Police.

The AFL player was charged on a court summons with driving whilst suspended, Victoria Police said.

Oliver was admitted to hospital after suffering a seizure in October this year.

He was then suspended from driving on medical grounds according to the Melbourne Football Club.

The club said in a statement to the ABC Oliver had immediately advised them of the police incident.

“This was in relation to the time he spent in the hospital following a seizure,” the statement said.

“As the matter is before the court, the club won’t be making any further comment at this stage.”

He is due in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 9 next year.
